South Carolina Human Trafficking Task Force

Veronica Smith

Veronica Smith is a Human Trafficking Program Coordinator for the South Carolina Human Trafficking Task Force. She provides support to state-level subcommittees and regional task forces in the Pee Dee area of the state. Veronica is the lead on labor trafficking for the Task Force as well as the point person for the development of Spanish language resources including trainings and public awareness materials.

Prior to this role, Veronica served at a Lutheran Services in Columbia as part of a multidisciplinary team that provided direct services to refugees. She transitioned from Program Assistant and Case Manager for victims of Human Trafficking, to Medical Coordinator, and ultimately became a Case Manager for unaccompanied minors. In her latter position, Veronica oversaw reunification of minors with their families in the United States and worked in collaboration and under the guidelines of the Office of Refugee Resettlement.

Veronica also served as a full time Medical Interpreter for Prisma Health. Simultaneously, she served as a Spanish teacher for St. Peter鈥檚 Catholic school where she taught children of all ages. Veronica gained extensive experience as an English teacher in Mexico, teaching students of all ages before moving to South Carolina nearly 20 years ago.

Veronica earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Sonora, located in Northern Mexico, where she served as an intern for the Research Center in Nutrition and Development (Centro de Investigaci贸n en Alimentaci贸n y Desarrollo, AC in Hermosillo, Mexico) participating in field studies involving farm workers, with a focus on human development and social vulnerability.
